Use case

Laser cutting

The removal of laser-cut components is usually done manually and is both time-consuming and tedious. Therefore, an automated removal solution is urgently needed, using suction plates and pins and optimized by AI models.

Safely remove and stack parts using AI-optimised strategies

Based on historical sensor data of faulty removals, AI methods can be trained to avoid them in the future. This includes the prediction of critically designed removals for complex parts (risk assessment) and the recommendation for optimised removal strategies.
Project partners involved

Problem:

  • Parts must be automatically removed from the residual grid by suction plates and pins.
  • The removal process must be robust enough to avoid stoppages that require time-consuming manual intervention.
  • The removal strategies within a cutting program are defined before production when the panel layout is created and cannot be modified afterwards.
  • Part geometries are arbitrarily complex and material properties vary greatly by job.
  • The adaptability of the removal strategy to different part geometries and material properties must be guaranteed at all times.

Solution approach:

  • The definition of appropriate extraction strategies can be supported by AI models.
  • Provided AI models help to identify faulty withdrawals in advance.
  • Optimization suggestions for faulty withdrawals are generated and provided.
  • The AI models are continuously retrained so that a constant adaptation to the current data situation is guaranteed.
  • The Removal Assessment Service provides a user-friendly, web-based application.
  • The Removal Assessment Service can be connected directly to the CAD/CAM system through a REST API.
